Everybody experiences anxious feelings from time to time. And of late, it seems that for many this is becoming the norm rather than the exception.
As someone who suffered with intense anxiety for many years, (that and 10 years of daily chronic pain is what made me leave my nursing career for a holistic healing practice), it is my passion to educate others on the alternatives available, beyond mind-numbing medications with horrible side effects.
Those medications were never an option for me, no matter how bad my anxiety got. As a nurse, I had studied all the side effects of those medications. It just didn’t make sense to me. And yet, it took me years of training and personal experience to come up with solutions that worked with our body’s natural healing mechanisms, rather than against them.
The knowledge I gleaned from my training in Ayurvedic medicine was a game changer in this area.
When I learned about the different mind-body types, (called a dosha), I was privy to what I believe is the most empowering information available–even today, with all the cutting edge science. I’ve also learned that most often, the simplest, most natural solution is usually the most effective.
As I came to understand the natural inclinations of the Vata body/mind type I had a whole new perspective in getting to the core cause of anxiety and the many symptoms created by it.
I came to understand why some of us worry more than others, and how this excess worry can interfere with daily life–causing insomnia, digestive disorders, chronic pain, and neurological disorders.
I was fortunate enough to do my Ayurveda internship training with a woman who was an industry expert in using essential oils to heal the body–specifically essential oils that help Vata types to soothe anxious feelings and help to calm worries.
Anxious Feelings and Essential Oils
Feelings of unease or worry can be helpful when they motivate you to take positive actions to solve problems. But they can be detrimental if they cause other physical illnesses and prevent you from experiencing joy and happiness in your daily life.
If you have a difficult time soothing anxious feelings, there are essential oils that can help…
One of the most well-researched benefits of essential oils is their ability to influence our moods and emotions. To promote a calming and relaxing environment you should diffuse a floral oil.
inhaling will do the trick. Once you start to try a few different oils, you’ll come to know which ones are your favorite and work the best for you and your specific needs.
I spent 18 months in intensive training learning to create blends that were specific for each individual mind/body type and condition. It was so rewarding to provide that kind of individually curated care to my clients.
I still recommend oils for specific conditions to my wellness coaching clients, but I also encourage women to have fun with creating their own blends.
Here’s a few that I recommend for calming anxious feelings. Diffuse them in your home or office. Blend them with a carrier oil and rub them on the bottom of your feet, or use them for a soothing aromatherapy bath.
- Wild Orange– Wild Orange is commonly used in essential oil blends aimed to promote emotional well-being because of its uniquely energizing yet calming aroma. Clinical research has shown that due to its concentration of limonene, aromatic and topical application of Wild Orange promotes a positive mood and supports a relaxing environment.
- Lavender– The calming and relaxing aroma of Lavender essential oil is often considered the root of modern aromatherapy and the past century has provided a significant amount of evidence to support it. Whether applied topically or used aromatically, numerous human clinical trials have validated the ability of Lavender’s aroma to improve mood, reduce feelings of anxiousness and stress, and create a restful environment.
- Copaiba- Copaiba’s spectrum of benefits is almost endless. While it is primarily known for being powerfully antioxidant, supporting the immune and respiratory systems when used internally, and being great for the skin topically, the rich concentration of beta-caryophyllene also imparts an uplifting aroma that research suggests may be beneficial to those attempting to abstain from unhealthy habits.
- Magnolia- Along with its many benefits when applied topically, essential oils rich in linalool have been shown in experimental research to promote a calm environment and feelings of relaxation.
- Rosemary- Rosemary has a unique chemical composition. The combination of three monoterpenes creates a distinct aroma that has been shown in clinical research to increase feelings of alertness and focus, and reduce feelings of stress.
- Neroli- Neroli is unique in that it has many of the mood-modulating characteristics being derived from a citrus tree. It also has significant concentrations of limonene. Clinical research validates the ability of Neroli essential oil to provide calming feelings when experienced aromatically.
We all have our own unique emotional needs. Essential oils are a convenient and effective tool for improving your emotional well-being.
Experimentation is the best way to find out what works for you. Just make sure you purchase pure high quality oils to reap the benefits. Many companies sell fragranced oils and label them as essential oils. Fragrance does not care the same properties as plant oils/medicine.
Keep in mind that everyone responds differently to natural medicines. It’s not a one-size fits all. That’s the good news! Also keep in mind that like brushing your teeth every day, natural healing modalities are something you need to do consistently. You don’t brush your teeth once a month and expect that to be sufficient. The best results with essential oils come from consistent use.

The anxious feelings that many have been experiencing during the pandemic conditions has not avoided me by any means. My mom passed away from Covid in April, and I was not able to travel to be with her. Add to that isolation and economic uncertainty… well, I definitely found myself relying on plant medicine and essential oils EVERY SINGLE DAY!

My mom passed away from Covid in April, and I was not able to travel to be with her. Add to that isolation and economic uncertainty… well, I definitely found myself relying on plant medicine and essential oils EVERY SINGLE DAY!
What ones do I rely on?? My personal favorite is Adaptiv Blend. It is formulated with precise amounts of many of nature’s most profound mood influencing aromas.
To be honest, even with daily self-care practices like yoga and meditation…when things get really difficult, like they have been in 2020, I’m never without my essential oils and my Adaptiv Kit. I diffused the oil 24/7 and applied the roller bottle on my wrist every hour.
I am so deeply grateful that I have the tools and support of plant medicine to restore balance and support my body, mind, psyche, and life. And I feel truly blessed to share the this information with women around the world who are ready to choose…ready to transform their health and well-being.
