Are You Missing the Healing That Is Actually Happening?

What if the problem isn’t that healing isn’t happening—but that you’re still looking for healing through the old paradigm?

Are You Missing the Healing That Is Actually Happening?

You may be doing the work. You may be seeing a practitioner, using healing techniques, clearing patterns, changing your thoughts, or experiencing genuine shifts—and still find yourself thinking:

Why isn’t this working?

But what if you’re asking the wrong question?

What if healing is actually happening, but you can’t recognize it because you’re still expecting healing to look like someone finding what’s wrong with you and fixing it?

This is one of the biggest shifts I see people struggle to make in their healing.

At a certain point, healing requires more than another technique, another practitioner, or another person telling you what they see.

It requires you to step into a new paradigm of healing.

And if you don’t make that shift, you can continue investing in healing while remaining in the position of the person waiting to be healed.

When most people think about healing, they have a very specific picture of what it should look like.

Something hurts.

What Does It Mean to Miss Your Own Healing?

Something is wrong.

Someone identifies the problem.

Someone removes the problem.

The symptom goes away.

Then you’re healed.

That model puts the practitioner in the position of the person who creates the result—and you in the position of the person receiving the result.

There is nothing wrong with receiving support. I work with people every day who need guidance, tools, healing sessions, and a different perspective.

But there comes a point when the relationship you have with your own healing has to change.

You have to begin seeing yourself as an active participant in your healing rather than someone waiting for another person to fix you.

That is the paradigm shift.

The Healing May Have Worked—But You May Still Have More to See

I recently worked with a client who illustrates this beautifully.

She has received guidance. She has tools. She has experienced shifts. She has worked with different healing approaches.

And yet there is still a part of her that is looking for someone else to tell her what is wrong and remove it for her.

She wants to understand everything through her mind.

She wants someone to look in and tell her what is happening.

She wants the answer.

But when I point her back toward her own body and her own experience, she has difficulty staying there.

That’s important.

Because if you are constantly trying to use your mind to figure out how to get into your body, you’re still looking for the answer outside yourself.

You’re still trying to be fixed.

And that can make it very difficult to recognize the healing that is already taking place.

The Old Paradigm of Healing Keeps You Looking Outside Yourself

The old paradigm says:

Something is wrong with me.

Someone else knows what is wrong.

Someone else has the tool to fix it.

I need them to create the result.

So you keep searching.

Another practitioner.

Another modality.

Another technique.

Another clearing.

Another person who can tell you what’s happening.

You may even become highly knowledgeable about healing and still remain in this paradigm.

You can know all the right words and understand all the right concepts and still unconsciously be waiting for someone else to make you well.

That is the part that can be difficult to see.

Because from the outside, it looks like you’re doing everything.

But internally, your position may still be:

“Someone needs to fix this for me.”

Healing Requires The New Paradigm

The new paradigm asks you to engage with yourself differently.

Instead of:

“Can someone find this and clear it for me?”

the question becomes:

“What is this showing me?”

Instead of:

“What is wrong with me?”

you begin asking:

“What am I ready to see, release, and embody now?”

Instead of:

“Why isn’t this practitioner creating the result?”

you begin asking:

“What is my part in this transformation?”

This doesn’t mean you don’t need support.

It doesn’t mean you stop working with practitioners.

And it certainly doesn’t mean you should ignore symptoms or physical concerns.

It means you stop giving away your power.

The practitioner can guide you.

The practitioner can help you see what you may not be able to see on your own.

The practitioner can give you tools.

But you have to take the steps.

That is how you become empowered in your own healing.

Why Healing Techniques Can Take You Only So Far

I’ve experienced this myself in my work.

Earlier in my practice, when I had a brick-and-mortar healing practice, people would come in, receive hands-on healing, feel wonderful, and experience significant movement.

They would leave feeling different.

And then, sometimes, a few days later or weeks later, the old pattern would return.

The healing had created movement.

But something deeper hadn’t changed.

The old programming, stories, identities, frequencies, and imprints were still there.

So the person returned to the same pattern.

This is why I don’t believe the answer is simply to keep moving energy indefinitely.

A technique can be valuable.

A modality can be valuable.

A healing session can be valuable.

But if you don’t understand what you’re actually being asked to see and shift, you can become dependent on the technique instead of becoming empowered through it.

That’s a very different outcome.

You Can Be Healing and Still Feel Like Nothing Is Happening

This is where many people become discouraged.

They have done years of healing work.

They’ve had breakthroughs.

They’ve experienced relief.

They’ve learned techniques.

And yet something keeps coming back.

So they conclude:

“This doesn’t work.”

But sometimes the more accurate statement is:

“There is another layer here that I’m ready to see.”

The fact that an old pattern appears again does not automatically mean that nothing changed.

It may be showing you where the deeper imprint still lives.

In my work, I see these patterns unfold layer by layer.

The question isn’t simply whether something was cleared.

The question becomes:

What is still operating underneath it?

What identity are you still holding?

What fear are you still organizing your life around?

What are you afraid to receive?

Where are you still holding back?

What are you still expecting to lose?

What are you still telling the field about what is possible for you?

Those questions take you into a different level of healing.

Your Body Has to Be Part of the Shift

One of the biggest challenges I see is people trying to understand everything from the mind.

They want to think their way into healing.

They want to analyze the pattern.

They want to figure out the answer.

But healing isn’t something you can always think your way into.

At some point, you have to get into your body.

You have to sit in the space.

You have to experience yourself.

You have to notice what is actually happening within you.

You have to be willing to stay present with what you’re experiencing rather than immediately looking for someone else to interpret it.

This is part of stepping into a new paradigm.

You are no longer simply collecting information about yourself.

You are learning how to experience yourself differently.

Stop Looking Only at How Healing Happened in the Past

Another trap is deciding that healing must look the way it looked before.

Maybe you experienced a dramatic release once.

Maybe a particular practitioner helped you.

Maybe a specific technique created a major breakthrough.

So you expect the next stage of healing to look exactly the same.

But what if your next level requires something different?

What if the tools that helped you get here were exactly what you needed then—but you are now being asked to engage with yourself at a deeper level?

I’ve seen this happen with people who have used techniques like tapping or somatic practices successfully.

Those tools may have served them.

They may have created genuine movement.

But eventually they reach a point where the next layer requires something different.

Not because the previous tool was bad.

Because they are ready for the next level of consciousness in their healing.

That’s an important distinction.

You don’t have to reject everything you’ve done before.

You have to be willing to recognize when you’re being called into something deeper.

The Question Is No Longer “Who Can Fix Me?”

This is one of the biggest shifts I want you to consider.

Instead of continually asking:

Who can fix this?

begin asking:

What am I being shown?

Instead of:

Who can tell me what’s wrong?

ask:

What am I ready to recognize?

Instead of:

Can someone remove this from me?

ask:

What version of me am I ready to align with?

This is the intention I use in my own work.

Rather than focusing entirely on having someone look in and identify what needs to be removed, you can begin focusing on the version of yourself where the issue does not exist.

Show me the version where this doesn’t exist.

I’m ready to align with the version of me where this doesn’t exist.

That is a completely different intention from:

“Somebody please remove this from me.”

And that difference matters.

You Have to Be Willing to See Differently

Your perspective determines what you can recognize.

If you continue looking through the same lens, you will continue seeing the same thing.

It’s like looking through colored glasses.

If you’re wearing blue glasses, everything you see is filtered through blue.

If you’re wearing rose-colored glasses, everything you see is filtered through rose.

The old healing paradigm can work the same way.

If you believe:

“I am broken and someone needs to fix me,”

you will naturally look for evidence that you’re still broken.

You will notice the symptom.

You will notice what isn’t changing.

You will notice what came back.

You will look for the next person who can tell you what is wrong.

But when you shift the paradigm, you begin seeing something else.

You begin noticing what has changed.

You begin recognizing where you have more capacity.

You begin seeing the patterns that are asking to be released.

You begin recognizing what you’re now ready to embody.

And you begin understanding that healing isn’t simply something that happens to you.

It is something you participate in.

What If You’re Already Healing?

This is the question I want you to sit with.

What if you’re already healing—and you’re missing it?

What if the thing you are calling failure is actually showing you another layer?

What if the pattern returning isn’t proof that nothing worked, but an opportunity to see what hasn’t yet shifted?

What if you don’t need another person to wave a magic wand?

What if you need the right guidance, the right tools, and the willingness to actually use them?

What if your next level of healing isn’t about finding someone who can do more to you?

What if it’s about learning how to do something differently with yourself?

That is the paradigm shift.

And it can change everything about how you approach healing.

Key Takeaways

  • You may be healing without recognizing it. Healing does not always look like the immediate disappearance of a symptom or problem.
  • The old paradigm of healing can keep you dependent. If you believe someone else must find and fix what’s wrong, you can continue outsourcing your power.
  • Healing techniques can create genuine movement without addressing every deeper pattern. A return of an old pattern doesn’t necessarily mean nothing happened.
  • Deeper healing requires participation. You have to be willing to see differently, get into your body, use the tools, and take the steps.
  • Your old identity and programming may be influencing what you can receive. Fear, constriction, and old stories can continue to shape how you engage with your life.
  • You may need a new paradigm rather than another technique. Sometimes the next level of healing requires a different way of understanding and engaging with yourself.
  • Stop looking only for what needs to be removed. Begin becoming available to the version of you where the issue no longer exists.

What This Episode Explores

In Episode 76 of The Place To Be Free Podcast, Martha Blessing explores:

  • Why you may not recognize the healing that is already happening
  • The difference between being healed by someone and participating in your own healing
  • Why repeatedly searching for practitioners and techniques can keep you in the old healing paradigm
  • How old identities, fears, stories, and imprints can continue to influence your experience
  • Why getting into the body is different from trying to think your way into healing
  • How healing can happen in layers
  • Why a previous healing technique may have served you without being the tool for your next level
  • The shift from asking someone to remove a problem to aligning with the version of yourself where the problem no longer exists
How do I know if I am actually healing?

Healing does not always look the way you expect it to. You may be experiencing genuine shifts while still having patterns or symptoms that need further attention. One of the questions to explore is whether you are only measuring healing by what has disappeared or whether you are also recognizing what has changed within you.

Why can’t I see my own healing?

You may have a fixed idea of what healing is supposed to look like. If you are expecting someone else to identify the problem, remove it, and produce a visible result, you may overlook subtler changes or the deeper work you are being asked to participate in.

Why do old patterns keep coming back after healing?

An old pattern returning does not necessarily mean that previous healing did nothing. In Martha Blessing’s framework, deeper patterns can unfold layer by layer. A person may experience genuine movement while still having underlying programming, identities, fears, or imprints that have not yet shifted.
Do I need another healing practitioner?

Do I need another healing practitioner?

Not necessarily. Support and guidance can be valuable, but the deeper question is whether you are continually looking for someone else to create the result for you. A practitioner can provide perspective, tools, and guidance; you still have to participate in the process

What is the new paradigm of healing?

The new paradigm is a shift away from seeing yourself primarily as someone who needs to be fixed. It involves becoming more engaged with your own experience, getting into your body, recognizing patterns, using the tools available to you, and becoming empowered in your own healing.
